Trail Ridge Road Scenic Drive
In the mountains there are times when you just can’t drive on certain roads, and although the Trail Ridge Road is one of those that is closed in the winter, Memorial Day Weekend is when it opens once again. Offering one of the most stunning drives in the nation, it is also the highest continuously paved road, reaching an elevation 12,000 feet and featuring the most spectacular panoramic views. Mountains surround you in all directions, and for once in your life, 48 miles (the length of the scenic drive) will seem too short, even as you should plan on taking the entire day to explore all that can be seen along your route. Technically it will only take 1.5 hours each way, but you will want to pull into the designated parking areas you find along the road, taking pictures and wondering why you can’t live here year-round.
