The golden season of summer speeds by far too quickly and but we won’t tell you an untruth; we at Voyago Vacation Rentals are generally ready for the fall to arrive. When it does, you will too, when you see all that fall brings to an Estes Park vacation. The fiery colors of trees dressed in their finest fall apparel, the crisp bite of the air reminding us that the colder season is that much closer, and, for vacationers traveling in the last month of fall, the sight of the mountain coming to life again, its white slopes dotted with people dressed in their colorful ski clothing. Fall in Colorado is the season where even Mother Nature loses the capability for words and because Labor Day is the official kickoff to fall in Estes Park, this Estes Park Labor Day guide to all the fun you will have celebrating the holiday and then coming home to Voyago to relax with a cup of cocoa and a sigh of happiness will make you wish there were more seasons and holidays to celebrate!

So Long Summer!

The weather over Labor Day weekend is generally already leaning into fall, with high temperatures just barely reaching the 70s and nighttime lows dropping into the 40s. In other words, on this weekend, which is generally acknowledged as a farewell to summer, the weather is sure to be absolutely perfect! Sunshine is expected, good times are guaranteed, and although there won’t be any parades or fireworks shows that most summer holidays feature, you won’t want to celebrate anywhere else ever again. Start your first day in town with a hearty breakfast served at a long-time local favorite, the Big Horn (401 W Elkhorn Avenue), and prepare to enjoy a day of outdoor adventures you will never forget!

Labor Day Arts & Crafts Festival, August 30 Through September 1, Bond Park

Labor Day weekend has long been the weekend of arts & crafts, with the Labor Day Arts & Crafts Festival bringing us joy for many years. Offering over 90 artists that hail from 17 states, this festival may be the only place you do your souvenir shopping. Featuring a variety of unique genres that include jewelry, fabric, metal, and, of course, the usual ones that include paint, photography, and pottery, this festival never fails to please. We love it so much that the chances you have already seen some of the best artists’ works hanging on the walls of your Voyago escape are pretty high. Also featuring live music, a children’s arts & crafts tent, a silent auction, and food and drink vendors, don’t be surprised if you find yourself returning for both days of the festival, just to make sure you have seen and experienced everything it has to offer!

What Kind of Adventures Can You Experience with a Visit to the Lake Estes Marina?

It’s true, the waters of Lake Estes are starting to get a little chilly on this last weekend of summer fun in Estes Park, but that shouldn’t mean you should stay away from the lake during your Labor Day adventures. Rent kayaks for the family and spend the day paddling around the clear waters, or add a bit of whimsy to your paddling adventures by renting a pedal boat instead! Also, renting canoes, pontoon boats, fishing boats, and paddleboards, you might want to plan at least one day of your getaway hanging out at Lake Estes and discovering all the watery adventures you will enjoy during your stay!

Take a Hike!

This will be one of the last weekends that the trees will still be in full canopy and the stunning beauty of the Estes Park landscape in full bloom deserves a closer look and the moderate temperatures making an end of summer hike the best of ideas. The Emerald Lake Trail is our favorite, lasting just 3.2 miles out and back and leading hikers through the most stunning Estes Park countryside. The trail cuts through the Tyndall Gorge, leading the way to Emerald Lake where, if you bring your gear, you can engage in a little fishing fun before turning around and heading back into town. There is a nearly 700 foot elevation gain, so this hike is a moderate one, but the views you will see of the mountain peaks and the Tyndall glacier will make the extra effort worth it!

Double the Beauty

Have you ever noticed that fireworks shows seem to be even more spectacular when viewed over the water? Maybe it is the naturally stunning surroundings, or maybe it is the peace that accompanies any large body of water, but we think it is the fact that you can enjoy double the beauty. With each boom and colorful spray of sparks that light up the sky, the reflection of the fireworks will be mirrored in the waters beneath, and that is another reason our Estes Park 4th of July Fireworks show is acclaimed as one of the best in the state. Exploding over the calm waters of Lake Estes, you and your family may not know where to look first, the sky or the lake, and this will be the best show you have experienced in so many years!

4th of July sparklers

Bring a Chair, Bring a Blanket

The most obvious place to view the fireworks show will definitely be on the shores of Lake Estes and everyone is invited to attend this free event, with the big booms starting at 9:30. Come a little earlier, packing a picnic dinner or stop by the Post Mountain House, located at 333 E Wonderview Avenue for a fried chicken to go, enjoying either on your blanket that you have chosen to mark your fireworks viewing territory at the lake. Camp chairs can be used as well, you don’t have to worry about blocking anyone’s view of the sky, for those who find it a tad difficult to get up from the ground.

Work for the Views from Kruger Rock in Hermit Park

The big booms from a fireworks display can be off putting to some and if you are one of that some and like to hike, Hermit Park, located just outside of Estes Park has the ideal spot to see all the color, without the intensity of the big booms. Climbing carefully to the top of Kruger Rock and discovering panoramic views of the countryside, including the lake and the fireworks display will bring you one of those moments that you just can’t help but cherish. We just ask that you be careful on the climb back down as it will be fully dark and more difficult to see where you are stepping and if the climb worries you, don’t make it. Hermit Park offers many great spots along the way that will offer views as well. Families with young children may want to explore another avenue, one we will discuss in greater detail below!

Get Comfortable on the Balcony of Your Voyago Vacation Rentals Holiday Hideaway

For many, the joy of the fireworks show involves the crowds that surround them, watching people, delighting over new friends their children make, and just feeling a part of something bigger, but for you, comfort is key, and people are just a little too much. That doesn’t mean you have to miss the show altogether, though, as the best views are as close as the balcony that stretches across the back of your Mountain Village at Lake Estes holiday hideaway.

Not every escape will offer lake views, but you knew in advance to ensure yours does, and as you sit comfortably, sipping happily, and savoring the beauty of the sun setting over the lake in the final moments of daylight, you can congratulate yourself on making the best choice of all.

Many of these cozy cabins in Estes Park offer outdoor fireplaces, in case the nights get cool, and barbecue grills that will let you enjoy a traditional 4th of July celebration without having to fight traffic and crowds and for families with young children who are frightened by the booms, they will still be heard, but as you are a bit of a distance away, they won’t be as loud and scary!

Estes Park Art Market, May 24-26, Bond Park, 170 MacGregor Avenue

Speaking of painting portraits, there will be plenty to peruse, as well as pottery, paintings, sculptures, jewelry, and so much more at the Estes Park Art Market held every Memorial Day Weekend! The Fine Arts Guild of the Rockies hosts the market, spotlighting local artists and those from surrounding states, and because art isn’t just limited to things you can buy, there will be live music playing all weekend long. Food trucks will be onsite so guests can linger over the cool woodcrafts, fiber art, photography and art glass that will be on display as well, ensuring that all mediums will be represented during this 40 year old event!

Trail Ridge Road Scenic Drive

In the mountains there are times when you just can’t drive on certain roads, and although the Trail Ridge Road is one of those that is closed in the winter, Memorial Day Weekend is when it opens once again. Offering one of the most stunning drives in the nation, it is also the highest continuously paved road, reaching an elevation 12,000 feet and featuring the most spectacular panoramic views. Mountains surround you in all directions, and for once in your life, 48 miles (the length of the scenic drive) will seem too short, even as you should plan on taking the entire day to explore all that can be seen along your route. Technically it will only take 1.5 hours each way, but you will want to pull into the designated parking areas you find along the road, taking pictures and wondering why you can’t live here year-round. It will be colder at these higher elevations, so be sure to bring a coat!

Open Air Adventure Park, 490 Prospect Village Drive

Memorial Day Weekend isn’t just the kickoff to summer, it is also when Estes Park seems to awaken after the beautiful and cold weather, and the Open Air Adventure Park is another fine example. Opening on the holiday weekend after being shut down all winter long, guests can enjoy a large number of outdoor adventures, including the 32 challenges offered in the Aerial Adventure Section for which you will get at least 90 minutes to conquer. Featuring ziplines, balancing equipment, rope ladders and many other exciting ways to release your inner acrobat, this fun park is one of the best parts of summer in Estes Park. Oh, and if you have any frustrations you need to release, their ax throwing adventure will help you release whatever may be bugging you without blowing your top!

Enjoy fly fishing in Estes Park

Angling for a Good Time?

Fishing is a popular activity in Colorado any time of the year, including over Memorial Day, and there are a variety of lakes, rivers, and ponds in the area where you can cast your line, but Lake Estes is probably our favorite place to catch our dinners. Standing in the cool waters, hip boots keeping most of the water out of our pants and casting a line that will attract the big trout is definitely a summer activity that will bring you vacation memories you will cherish forever. And if you are used to more traditional methods of fishing or are not quite sure of your flyfishing skills, Fly Fish Estes Park, 363 E Elkhorn Avenue Suite 305, offers guided trips that will help you stay in the flyfishing game!

Our Sunrises Will Wow

Whether you are getting up early to participate virtually in your own home church’s sunrise celebration or you are just too excited to sleep, a sunrise in Estes Park is destined to feed your soul with a beauty and peace that you never knew it needed. Bundle up warmly, as spring temps can still be quite chilly, and head out to your east-facing patio to witness the marvel of Mother Nature’s greatest performance, or if the patio of your cabin isn’t facing the right direction or you are just too cold to step outdoors, chances are the floor-to-ceiling windows in your cozy living room will frame the sunrise to perfection. Start a fire for extra warmth, snuggle under a blanket, and let the fire in the sky do its magic. Still feeling sleepy? Head back to the comforts of your warm and magical bed for a few more zzzz’s before officially starting your day!

Brunch of Champions

Well, maybe that phrase doesn’t have the same musical flow as the more well-known breakfast of champions, but we think brunch is much more civilized, don’t you? After your brief refresher sleep, a brunch at Bird & Jims, located at 915 Moraine Avenue, is destined to be a celebration in itself. Offering elevated brunch choices that include Apple-Chicken Sausage Benedict and Buffalo-n-Eggs (a dish made with buffalo jalapeño sausage), their Bacon Bloody is the ONLY way to wash down your brunch of champions, in our humble opinions. Or, should you not want to venture out on this cold and probably snowy March morn, our fully equipped kitchens are up to the challenge of preparing an Easter brunch at home!

The Annual Hunt

The first words out of your children’s mouth when you told them you were taking Easter on the road this year most definitely were, “But what about the Easter Bunny?” The list of official Easter egg hunts in Estes Park hasn’t been released yet, but in past years, many local churches have sponsored a few, as has the local YMCA, so we are pretty sure there will be more of the same. Additionally, whether there is an official egg hunt or not, our holiday hideaways offer plenty of hiding spots for the eggs you may have colored at their dining room tables the night before. The kitchens we mentioned earlier aren’t there just to hold your beer, wine, and snacks, the cabinets contain pots for boiling all the eggs you need.

What About the Baskets?

Of course, the Easter Bunny has to bring a basket, and if you didn’t pack your own candy and treats, there is no better place to find the sweets you treat than the Old Fashioned Candy and General Store, located at 184 E Elkhorn Avenue # E. To be perfectly honest, we would recommend this store even if you weren’t looking for candy to fill Easter baskets, especially as THIS is the store that holds the candies of your memories, as well as the candy your kids know and love!

Winter Sports for the Win

Estes Park is known for being a Colorado mountain town that doesn’t rely on a ski resort to be popular and exciting, but if you want to combine a ski trip with your comfortable stay in our rentals, Eldora Mountain Resort is located just 47 miles away in the town of Nederland, and ski season isn’t expected to close until the middle of April. If you want to stick close to home, however, there are plenty of winter sport activities you can participate in, including sledding on a former ski trail off Trail Ridge Road in the Rocky Mountain National Park, ice skating on Dorsey Pond at the YMCA of the Rockies, and snow shoeing just about anywhere you like!

Easter Excitement with Voyago Vacation Rentals

The warmth of our holiday havens will drive away any chill the still wintry weather will bring, ensuring that Easter in Estes Park 2024 will be one you remember for years to come. Memories are made with Voyago, so be sure to reserve your favorite escape today!
