The carefree days of summer will end far too soon once again this year, but your seasonal journey won’t end without one last hurrah. Labor Day weekend has traditionally been known as the grand finale of summer, and you have made plans to experience an Estes Park Labor Day weekend. We at Voyago Vacation Rentals can’t wait to introduce you to our mountain town and the beautiful holiday hideaways we have waiting to help you rest and relax between adventures.
Why Labor Day Is a Great Time for Families to Visit Estes Park
The easiest answer to why this holiday is a great time for your family to visit our hometown is that there are so many things to do in Estes Park during Labor Day weekend. The long weekend is a great time to reconnect with family, especially when you enjoy the luxurious extras featured in our Estes Park large group rentals!

Outdoor Activities Kids and Parents Will Both Enjoy
The weather in Estes Park for Labor Day weekend has historically been as close to perfect as you could imagine. It’s usually warm (but not too warm), sunny, and dry, so of course you and your kids will want to get outside and play as much as possible.
Mustang Mountain Coaster
There are many ways to get down the mountain during a Colorado vacation, but we think the most fun is with a ride on the Mustang Mountain Coaster. Controlled by you, the rider, you can go as fast as you want, and while your children may up the speed a bit (max speed is 27 mph), you may go slower, savoring the beauty of your surroundings as you go. Riders must be at least 3 years old and 38 inches tall to ride the coaster (56 inches to ride alone). The weight limit is 330 pounds.

Estes Park Riverwalk (Behind Elkhorn Avenue)
Sometimes a good walk is exactly what you need, especially if that walk takes you along the Estes Park Riverwalk. Offering bronze animal statues for the kids, shopping adventures for the adults, and taffy pulling (The Taffy Shop) for the enjoyment of both, the Riverwalk follows along the Big Thompson and the Fall Rivers.
Lake Estes Trail Loop
If you want to engage in a hike but aren’t interested in exerting a LOT of energy, the Lake Estes Trail Loop is ideal. This wide, paved trail is perfect for parents with strollers or wheelchair users.

Family‑Friendly Events and Things to Do Over Labor Day Weekend
A ghost tour of the Stanley Hotel is always a fantastic thing to do in Estes Park over Labor Day weekend. If you have ever watched the Stephen King movie, “The Shining,” the Stanley Hotel may look familiar. The Overlook Hotel in the movie was actually filmed at The Stanley, and the experiences and dreams Mr. King had while staying there evolved into this most famous movie and book. The hotel offers a variety of tours, including a historical tour, a ghost tour, and The Shining Tour, which dives into the book, the movie, and the miniseries.

Fun City is our local amusement park, featuring rides, games, and miniature golf. This seasonal fun park will close not long after the holiday weekend, but in the meantime, it will be one of your kids’ favorite memories. Ticket prices are based on the adventures you engage in, and activity cards can be purchased so as not to have to stop between fun activities.

Festivals aren’t always fun for the kids, but the Labor Day Arts & Crafts Festival at Bond Park is designed to entertain all ages. With artisans selling their best work (over 90 artists and artisans attend), live music set against the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains, and a kids’ arts-and-crafts tent, everyone will have a blast. Admission is free, but you will want to bring your wallet to enjoy a beautiful art shopping spree.
Dining Options That Work Well for Families
Dining out with children during your Estes Park Labor Day weekend will not be stressful at all. We’ve listed some of our favorite family-friendly restaurants below.
Bighorn Restaurant
With a pet-friendly patio, kids’ menus, and a hearty comfort-food menu, Bighorn Restaurant offers a friendly vibe that ensures parents can relax while dining with children. Also offers a full bar and their very popular mimosas on their breakfast menu.

The Hive at Estes Park Brewery
While you may not think of a brewery as being kid-friendly, The Hive at Estes Park Brewery will change your opinion. Offering a menu filled with pizza, burgers, and other elevated pub grub selections, and of course, a beer menu that is ever evolving, this is your chance to taste world-famous Colorado beers and relax with the family.

Penelope’s World Famous Burgers & Fries
Sometimes you just need a good old-fashioned burger, and when that happens during your Estes Park Labor Day weekend, Penelope’s is where you should go. This isn’t fancy food, but it is good, and we recommend their elk chili if you are looking for something rich, hearty, and delicious. And because simple can be elevated, their game burgers, craft sandwiches, and gourmet brats will remind you of the importance of spoiling yourself while on vacation. It also serves shakes, malts, and sundaes, making it a perfect summer dining destination when traveling with children.
